It is now over a year since the transition to a new national Coastguard network was completed, with the National Maritime Operations Centre (NMOC) and ten other operations centres in action around the UK. There has, however, been some confusion among the sailing community as to how to contact the Coastguard. The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) advises that sailors should use Coastguard callsigns based on their geographical area, such as ‘Falmouth Coastguard’.
