27 December  MoP advised kayak drifting down river, apparently nobody aboard.  Kayak visible from NCI Tower off marina and sometimes wedged between mooring buoys. Solent CG informed and Harbour Master advised. NCI  lost visual as kayak drifted NW of marina. Solent CG confirmed NFA required at this time. Later kayak ashore on Shelley Beach and retrieved by Beach Reserve. Solent CG advised accordingly.

17 November  MoP notified Exmouth NCI via emergency telephone number of unidentified object on beach between Beer and Branscombe, giving details and photos. Call to MoP to verify deatils and to Solent CG confirming details, sending photos and passing information on MoP. Following day Solent CG confirmed CRT and EOD to visit location and resolve. Exmouth Harbourmaster identified object as rail wagon wheel used as base for mooring buoys. EOD to be advised.

12 October  Report received from MoP yacht aground off Orcombe Point. No movement observed. Advised Solent CG who requested continued observation. ILB launched to investigate. Solent CG later reported yacht anchored. No further action.

6 October  Solent CG requested observation on a dinghy, with no persons onboard and no engine, reported floating downstream from estuary and to advise them if sighted. Solent CG advised at end of watch that no dinghy sighted.

29 September  MoP reported that kitesurfers were sailing in the estuary bird conservation area. Watchkeepers contacted the RSPCA emergency number to pass on this concern. RSPCA reported that their Inspector will assess the situation and will determine what action, if any, will be initiated.

24 September  Radio call received from water taxi operator requesting observation of an angler with an inflatable boat fishing in the estuary. Angler observed by watchkeepers. Water taxi alerted Solent CG. Water taxi concerned that position where angler was fishing and the state of tide/weather conditions would make return to shore difficult. Solent CG requested continuing observation and confirmation when he returned to shore. Several sightings of angler continuing to fish recorded but reported to Solent CG that angler no longer in sight at end of watch. No further action.

21 September  Watchkeepers observed jet skier separated from jet ski and drifting 300m apart. Solent CG contacted via 999 and had already received report from harbour patrol on Ch16. Solent CG requested continued observation. Jet skier later reunited with jet ski. No further action.

15 September  Solent CG requested observation on a 999 report from MoP who was concerned about walkers on the outer sandbank off Orcombe Point. Walkers observed and in no danger with sailboarders in very close attendance. Solent CG requested continued observation. Walkers later returned to shore. Solent CG informed. No further action.

25 August  Relayed phone call from MoP to Solent CG reporting a speedboat operating close to swimmers off the beach at Budleigh Salterton. Solent CG tasked Budleigh Salterton lifeguards to investigate. No further action.

20 August  Watchkeepers observed motor cruiser drifting, then anchoring, in Exmouth channel. Ch65 call to lookout from water taxi saying that he would provide a tow. Solent CG informed – continued observation requested. Water taxi later on scene and towed cruiser to Exmouth marina.

18 August  Pan-Pan call from Solent CG requesting any boat in vicinity to assist RIB that had lost power off Budleigh Salterton. Solent CG requested observation from Exmouth NCI – negative sighting but continued observation requested. Pan-Pan later cancelled as RIB had repaired engine fault. No further action.

2 August  Solent CG requested observation on a report from a MoP of a dinghy with children onboard approx 200yds off Dawlish. Reported to Solent CG that no dinghy visible in the area but observation would continue.

8 July  Telephone message received from MoP reporting a yacht with broken rigging requiring assistance somewhere in the vicinity of Exmouth. Nothing visible observed but details reported to Solent CG. Solent CG confirmed that yacht was identified near St Albans Head and the RNLI were rendering assistance.

7 July  Watchkeepers observed small speedboat heeling badly and overcrowded with 5 people, none wearing lifejackets. Solent CG informed as there was serious concern for safety of occupants. ILB launched and gave safety advice to occupants. 

7 July  Injured beach user reported to station lookout by MoP. NCI reported to Beach Lifeguards who attended incident. Ambulance arrived to attend to casualty with suspected broken collar bone.

4 July  Watchkeepers observed pickup truck caught by rising tide on Exmouth beach.  No persons in danger but incident reported to Solent CG and beach lifeguards. Driver of vehicle informed NCI that truck was stuck – he was notified that Solent CG  had been informed. A vehicle later arrived and pulled the truck from the water. Solent CG informed.

28 June  Solent CG called to request observation on a floating object reported by a MoP. Informed Solent CG that only object visible was a tethered mooring buoy. Observation continued but no further action.

26 June  Solent CG called to request observation on a swimmer reported to be near Langstone Rock. Negative sighting but observation continued. Police helicopter observed in search area. Police reported to Solent CG swimmer located and no further assistance required. 

19 June  Watchkeepers observed windsurfer in possible difficulty 0.5 m offshore. Solent CG informed and requested continued observation. Windsurfer regained control without assistance. No further action and Solent CG informed.

9 June  Watchkeepers observed kitesurfer unable to get back on his board. Solent CG informed and kept under observation. Kitesurfer collected by RIB launched from shore and returned safely to shore.

28 May  Yacht in very poor condition observed heading out to sea. Exmouth Water Taxi contacted watchkeepers to report his concern. Solent CG informed. Yacht briefly put into Exmouth harbour and then observed heading east. No further action.

13 May  Watchkeepers observed kitesurfer unable to re-launch and attempting to swim against an ebb tide to shore with kite. Informed Solent CG and continued observation. Observed passing paddle boarder and RIB moving to kitesurfer to assist. RIB towed kitesurfer safely to shore. Solent CG informed. No further action. 

7 May  Yacht radio message to NCI to inform he had run aground but in no need of assistance. NCI informed Solent CG who requested continued monitoring. Yacht later refloated. No further action.

5 May  Watchkeepers informed Solent CG that yacht had run aground on sands off Dawlish Warren. No sign of distress. Solent CG requested continued observation. Radio message from Solent CG to yacht who confirmed they would wait for rising tide to refloat. Yacht later refloated. No further action.

16 April Watchkeepers observed two walkers possibly stranded on a small sandbank bearing 131 degrees from the lookout. Solent CG advised who requested continued observation. Walkers later made their own way to shore safely. No further action.

8 April Solent CG requested observation on a report that a wooden motorboat had run aground in the estuary near Powderham Castle. Exmouth NCI confirmed location from chart references. Exmouth ILB launched, reported that it was unable to remove vessel and returned to station.

5 April Telecom from MoP relayed to Solent CG concerning yacht drifting off the estuary shoreline. Believed to be same yacht previously reported on 2 Apr. Advised Solent CG of previous incident and reported that Station Manager was proceeding to location for visual check. Solent CG advised of MoP contact details and SM update. SM advised Solent CG that yacht was the same as previously reported. Solent CG informed the Harbour Master and owner and closed the incident.

2 April MoP reported grounded yacht on the estuary shoreline. Report of yacht ID passed to Solent CG. Solent CG called back to advise that the yacht owner had already been informed. No further action.

9 March MoP reported to NCI boat or aircraft debris beached on west side of Orcombe Point. Solent CG informed. HMCG will investigate.

24 February  Watchkeepers observed two capsized kayakers in difficulty on seaward side of Pole Sands. Solent CG informed and requested observation and report. Kayakers managed to re-board and proceed safely. Solent CG informed and no further action.

23 February Yacht leaving Exmouth grounded on Pole Sands. Watchkeepers informed Solent CG who requested observation to continue. Solent CG requested further details on incident – yacht high and dry with crew onboard. Exmouth ILB tasked to assist. No assistance required – yacht will wait for rising tide. Observation continued but no further action.
