Incident – Dinghy Capsized

MoP called to report dinghy in trouble. Monitored on CCTV. One person in water by capsized dinghy. NCI advised HMCG. Dinghy righted by one person holding on. Dinghy and one person self recovered to shore. Incident closed with HMCG.

New Watchkeeper

Congratulations to our newly qualified Exmouth NCI Watchkeeper, Tim.  The photograph shows our Trainer/Assessor, Chris, presenting Tim with his epaulettes.  Tim joins our station at a busy time of year when we are open from 0800 through to 1930 every day.  Welcome to the team Tim.

Watchkeepers social evening

Exmouth watchkeepers enjoyed an evening aboard the Pride of Exmouth kindly arranged by the Friends of Exmouth Coastwatch group. The sun shone bright, the dolphins swam past, excellent raffle prizes courtesy of local businesses, some entertainment by watchkeepers and a fine time was had by all. Our thanks to FOEC, and to the other watchkeepers on duty keeping an eye on our safety.

Incident – Kayak/Paddleboard at Sea

Asked by HMCG for assistance in search for kayak/paddleboard reported by MoP far out to sea at Orcombe Point. Requested we check CCTV. CCTV search of area. No sighting. HMCG informed of negative search.

Presentation – Hillside House

Our busy Presentation Team were at it again, this time giving a talk to the residents of Hillside House in Newton Poppleford. The presentation was delivered by our Deputy Station Manager John Dyer and the gathering were told about the dangers of the Exe and our Water Safety messages.
There was much interest about our history and that of the charity.

Presentation – Cullompton WI

NCI Exmouth were invited to give a talk to the Collumpton WI at their monthly meeting at the Culm Vale Bowling Club. After a rousing rendition of “Jerusalem”, our watchkeeper and trainer Hugh Sutherland gave a 40 minute lecture to the ladies present about our charity and the work we do with the Marine and Coastguard Agency. There were questions on our training and the dangers we encounter in the Estuary.

Finally thank you for the tea and biscuits and for all your interest in our charity.

Incident – Engine Failure

HMCG Securite message. RIB with engine failure. 50 34.46’N – 003 19.34’W. Vessel offered tow. NCI observed RIB on CCTV and observed tow. NCI contacted HMCG with this information. CG confirmed contact with towing vessel. NCI monitoring with intermittent CCTV availability. RIB under tow passed NCI lookout.

Local Notice to Mariners 17/24

Environment Agency Seagrass Survey

Notice is hereby given that that the Environment Agency will be undertaking their annual survey of Seagrass using a hovercraft in the Exe Estuary on the 2nd and 3rd of July.

They will launch from Exmouth Slipway on the 2nd around 7:30 am and aim to be finished by lunchtime. On the 3rd July they will launch from Starcross about 9am and will be on the
Dawlish side in the area of the Bight.

Masters of vessels are requested to keep clear of the hovercraft during the survey work.

New Watchkeeper

Congratulations to Anna who qualified as a watchkeeper with Exmouth NCI today.  Hugh, our Trainer/Assessor, presenting Anna with her epaulettes.  Anna is joining a busy team here in Exmouth and particularly as we enter the summer season, Exmouth NCI are here looking out for the safety of visitors and residents alike.  Welcome on board Anna.
