From The Tower
Watchkeepers observed a Thames Sailing Barge entering Exmouth harbour. A Thames sailing barge is a type of commercial sailing boat once common on the East Coast of Britain. The flat-bottomed barges with a shallow draught and leeboards, were perfectly adapted to the Thames Estuary, with its shallow waters and narrow tributary rivers.
Exmouth Coastwatch On The Air
Anthony Howell-Jones and Alan Campbell, Exmouth NCI watchkeepers and amateur radio enthusiasts, set up in Coastwatch House last weekend and communicated this special amateur radio weekend across the airwaves. They were able to tell fellow amateur radio enthusiasts about the volunteer work that Exmouth NCI carries out with the Search & Rescue Services. They were speaking to people not only in the UK, but also in Poland, Northern Ireland, Bulgaria, Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Hungary and many other countries. Many visitors called in to learn more about amateur radio and Exmouth NCI.
