Presentation

Our presentation team were asked to give a talk to the residents of Brandon House in Exmouth.

Hugh S, our speaker and station trainer explained how we are an asset to HMCG.

Thank you for your time and hospitality.

Talks are part of our fundraising efforts as the team relies on donations for over 50% of its funding. If you know a community group who would like to learn about the history of the National Coastwatch Institution, both nationally and locally, and the exciting work of a Watchkeeper, get in touch!

New CWS Assistant

Congratulations to Nicky who has completed her training and became NCI Exmouth's first dedicated Coastal & Water Safety Assistant.

Nicky brings to the role a wealth of experience through her work in main stream secondary education and swimming instruction, joining our team of Watch Keepers and Coastal & Water Safety Officers, swelling our ranks of dedicated volunteers.

As our busy Summer season fast approaches, we continue to gear up our efforts to ensure your time around our coasts is as safe and enjoyable as possible.
Nicky is pictured here shaking hands with Karen, our Coastal Safety Lead at the station.

Mayor visit to NCI Exmouth

Exmouth Mayor Councillor Graham Deasy visited The NCI Exmouth lookout, where he met volunteer watchkeepers, seen here with the Acting Station Manager, John Dyer. We spent time looking around the lookout, the equipment and discussing what we do, as well as future plans for the sea front.

Choral Society Collection

It was a wonderful evening, filled with beautiful music from piano and harmonium, alongside the Choral Society’s singing. At the start of the concert, Acting Station Manager John Dyer gave a short introduction to the work of NCI.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone for your warm welcome and generous support.

Presentation

We would like to express our thanks to the Trefoil Guild, to whom we gave a presentation to last week.

Trefoil Guild is for those who have been involved in Girl Guiding and is for everyone aged 18 and over. They are a place to find friendship, to get involved in new challenges, or get active in your community and are a place to give support and find comfort. They have a network of members across the UK.

Thank you for your excellent questions, tea & biscuits and your generous donation.

No one in the charity gets paid, not even our Trustee 's and we get no Government funding but instead have to raise our operating costs for NCI Exmouth ourselves. This is achieved through kind donations and presentation events.

Possible Unexploded Bomb Dredged

Situation resolved 7am, Friday 16th - Thank you to the emergency services

The Devon and Cornwall force said teams were at Exmouth Marina "after a suspected unexploded ordnance was dredged out of the water".

Officers had set up a 100m cordon and properties were being evacuated. A bomb disposal team had been alerted.

Exmouth resident John Cameron said police had been knocking on doors within the cordon, advising people to evacuate their properties.

Before the evacuation, he could see the dredger in the marina, with a large object about 3 or 4ft in length and 2ft in diameter onboard the vessel.

Devon and Cornwall Police said LED Exmouth Leisure Centre, on Imperial Road, was available for anyone being displaced who needed somewhere to go.

We know a 400m cordon is in place in Exmouth after an unexploded wartime device was found during routine dredging

An East Devon District Council (EDDC) FAQ page says 5,000 people and 2,000 properties are thought to be affected by the discovery on Wednesday.

It says military advice is clear and those living within 400m of the device "need to evacuate".

A bomb disposal team from the Midlands has been deployed to Exmouth, according to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, and they arrived in the seaside Devon town at about 19:25 GMT on Wednesday.
