No swim warning after major sewage spill
People have been urged to avoid entering the sea after a major sewer spill in Devon.
South West Water (SWW) said the burst sewer happened on private land in Exmouth next to Maer Lane wastewater treatment works.
It said Maer Lane had been temporarily shut as a result.
East Devon District Council (EDDC) leader councillor Paul Arnott said due to the “severity of the spill” the council has had to “red flag bathing” in the area.
Watchkeepers social evening
Exmouth watchkeepers enjoyed an evening aboard the Pride of Exmouth kindly arranged by the Friends of Exmouth Coastwatch group. The sun shone bright, the dolphins swam past, excellent raffle prizes courtesy of local businesses, some entertainment by watchkeepers and a fine time was had by all. Our thanks to FOEC, and to the other watchkeepers on duty keeping an eye on our safety.
Presentation – Cullompton WI
NCI Exmouth were invited to give a talk to the Collumpton WI at their monthly meeting at the Culm Vale Bowling Club. After a rousing rendition of “Jerusalem”, our watchkeeper and trainer Hugh Sutherland gave a 40 minute lecture to the ladies present about our charity and the work we do with the Marine and Coastguard Agency. There were questions on our training and the dangers we encounter in the Estuary.
Finally thank you for the tea and biscuits and for all your interest in our charity.
Well done to our busy Presentation Team.
