Coastal Water Safety Team
The purpose of NCI CWS is to offer safety information to the public, providing key safety messages and local information to help them make safe decisions and actions and so 'Stay safe along the coast'
One of the main responsibilities of a Coastal Water Safety Officer is to provide vital information about water conditions, potential hazards, and safety guidelines. By engaging with beachgoers, you can help to educate them on the importance of swimming in designated areas, respecting posted signs, and understanding the risks of rip currents. Your friendly demeanor and approachable nature can make a big difference in how people receive this important information.
In addition to sharing knowledge about safety practices, you will also be expected to organize and participate in community events focused on water safety. These activities not only raise awareness but also create a sense of community. Examples of such activities would be running an NCI information station at 'Organ Donation Day' on The Strand, running Water Safety talks with local scout groups, interacting with different groups of water users to provide information relevant to their activity for example, giving out safety leaflets and waterproof craft stickers to Kayakers , paddle boarders etc. The opportunities are wide and every CWS officer is encouraged to bring new ideas and opportunities to the table.
Your involvement doesn’t just stop at education; it also extends to monitoring the conditions of the beach and reporting any dangerous situations. Your vigilance can help prevent accidents and ensure that everyone enjoys the ocean safely.
Everyone has a part to play in coastal safety, and by volunteering as a Coastal Water Safety Officer, you’re taking a proactive step to make a positive impact. Together, we can create a safer beach environment for everyone.
